What can i put on my car bumper to keep hard-to-remove love bugs from sticking – would veg oil hurt the paint?

This is the time of year when those pesky love bugs invade Florida. They are hard as hell to get off the bumper, hood, etc. I heard you can put vegetable oil on your bumper and the bugs will be easy to remove. Anybody ever try that? I’m concerned it could hurt the paint, advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Sure, and add a bit of vinegar too to make it even tastier!

No don’t use veggie oil, or any oil. It can dull the paint over time, but will attract stuff to your car.

Use a good coat of automotive car wax, and re-apply it when you wash the bugs off. Also, wash the bugs off frequently, don’t let them bake for days. To soften them up a bit, cover the affected area with a towel soaking wet with your wash stuff. Let set a couple of hours (re wet if needed) and then the “buguts” will wipe right off.
